The tigress released into Odisha’s Satkosia Reserve from Madhya Pradesh, which allegedly killed a woman in Anugul district a day earlier, will be sent back to her home state.
Details of Translocation:
- This was India’s fist Inter – State Translocation project in which tigers were to be shifted from Kanha National Park to Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Odisha. The major reason behind this move is space crunch as many tiger reserves are experiencing high tiger density
About Satkosia Tiger Reserve:
- Satkosia Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve located in the Angul district of Odisha, India covering an area of 988.30 km².
- It is located where the Mahanadi River passes through a 22 km long gorge in the Eastern Ghats mountains.
- The tiger reserve is located in the Eastern Highlands moist deciduous forests ecoregion. The major plant communities are mixed deciduous forests including Sal and riverine forest
About Bandhavgarh National Park:
- Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the popular national parks in India located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh.
- Bandhavgarh was declared a national park in 1968, with an area of 105 km2.
- The density of the tiger population at Bandhavgarh is one of the highest known in India.
- The park has a large breeding population of leopards, and various species of deer.
- Maharaja Martand Singh of Rewa captured the first white tiger in this region in 1951.
– the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DADF) started the Dairy Processing & Infrastructure Development Fund (DIDF) with an outlay of Rs 10881 crore.
Details of Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund:
- The project will focus on building an efficient milk procurement system by setting up of chilling infrastructure & installation of electronic milk adulteration testing equipment, creation/modernization/expansion of processing infrastructure and manufacturing faculties for Value Added Products for the Milk Unions/ Milk
- The project will be implemented by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and National Dairy Development Cooperation (NCDC) directly through the End Borrowers such as Milk Unions, State Dairy Federations, Multi-state Milk Cooperatives, Milk Producer Companies and NDDB subsidiaries meeting the eligibility criteria under the project
- An Implementation and Monitoring Cell (IMC) located at NDDB, Anand, will manage the implementation and monitoring of day-to-day project activities
- Under this scheme, milk cooperatives will be provided financial assistance of Rs 8004 crore in the form of a loan at 6.5% interest, which will be reimbursed over a period of 10 years. The government has also given a provision of interest subsidy on loans.
- The respective State Government will be the guarantor of loan repayment.
- Also for the project sanctioned if the end user is not able to contribute its share; State Government will contribute the same.
- Karnataka has received maximum benefit from this scheme, followed by Punjab and then Haryana.
- With this scheme, 95,00,000 farmers in about 50,000 villages will be benefitted. In addition to this, many skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers will get employment, directly and indirectly.
- Additional milk processing capacity of 126 lakh litre per day, milk drying capacity of 210 MT per day, milk chilling capacity of 140 lakh litre per day shall be created.

- National Dairy Plan Phase I (NDP I) is a Central Sector Scheme being implemented by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB)through End Implementing Agencies.
- 1.To help increase productivity of milch animals and thereby increase milk production to meet the rapidly growing demand for milk.
- 2. To help provide rural milk producers with greater access to the organised milk-processing sector.
Rashtriya Gokul Mission:
- The Rashtriya Gokul Mission aims to conserve and develop indigenous breeds in a focused and scientific manner
- The Mission will be implemented with the objectives to:
- 1. Development and conservation of indigenous breeds
- 2. Undertake breed improvement programme for indigenous cattle breeds so as to improve the genetic makeup and increase the stock;
- 3. Enhance milk production and productivity;
- 4. Upgrade nondescript cattle using elite indigenous breeds like Gir, Sahiwal, Rathi, Deoni, Tharparkar, Red Sindhi and
- 5. Distribute disease free high genetic merit bulls for natural service.
- 1. Under this component it is proposed to establish Integrated Indigenous Cattle Centres or Gokul Grams in the breeding tracts of indigenous breeds.
- 2. Gokul Gram will act as Centres for development of Indigenous Breeds and a dependable source for supply of high genetic breeding stock to the farmers in the breeding tract.
- 3. The Gokul Gram will be self-sustaining and will generate economic resources from sale of A2 milk, organic manure, vermi-composting, urine distillates, and production of electricity from bio gas for in
house consumption and sale of animal products.
- 4. It will also act as a training centre for Farmers and Breeders.
- 5. The Gokul Gram will maintain milch and unproductive animals in the ratio of 60:40 and will have the capacity to maintain about 1000 animals.
- 6. Nutritional requirements of the animals will be provided in the Gokul Gram through in-house fodder production.
- 7. Disease free status of Gokul Gram will be maintained through regular screening of animals for important diseases like brucellosis, TB and JD.
- 8. Indigenous cattle, in India, are robust and resilient and are particularly suited to the climate and environment of their respective breeding tracts. They are endowed with qualities of heat tolerance,
resistance to diseases and the ability to thrive under extreme climatic stress and less than optimal nutrition.
- It is a medium – density genotyping chip for major Indian cattle breeds and
their crosses for genomic selection.
- NDDB is the first in the country to develop this type of custom-made chip.
- It will help semen stations select bulls at the young age without waiting for their daughter’s production records and farmers select their heifers for replacement even at birth.
- Using this chip breed purity of major Indian cattle breeds and proportion of various breeds in cross – breeds can also be checked.
